Lewisham Foodbank at Tesco in Lewisham

Last week I met up with Lewisham Foodbank and volunteered a few hours at Tesco. Collecting food from shoppers to add to the stockpile out back.
Its a real shame that in todays society there are now over 2000 Trussell Trust food banks in the United Kingdom. A shocking figure, when we are supposedly one of the richest countries in the world. Without initiatives like this one set up by Tesco's to collect food all over the country, thousands of people would go hungry every week.

It was amazing fun meeting all the volunteers who came and helped out that day, and of course the lovely Carol Bostridge the boss of the food bank in Lewisham. Who was on hand to keep us all in good spirit and under control.

This is her with one of the Lewisham branch managers, of Tesco's who couldn't have been more nicer.

She even got me wearing a tabard, which is something I never thought I'd ever do. The donations kept coming, every hour we filled yet more free crates with essential food items and pet food. Toiletries and some nice stuff like boxes of biscuits and chocolate treats for Christmas. We where joined later in the day by Emma Revie the CEO of the Trussell Trust and senior managers from Tesco who organised this whole thing.

Emma campaignes tirelessly to try and stop this madness we have in our country. Children going hungry and old people left to starve. its not right and she works so hard campaigning. It was a pleasure to meet them all that day.To all the shoppers that came and donated I thank you, The Trussell Trust thanks you, and Tesco's thanks you all for your kind generosity. You have brightened up the lives of so many, you don't even know. Without your help a lot of people would be having an even more miserable Christmas. To all the volunteers who worked so hard over the three days, your all legends. Thank you all.
